Floor shift steering column

There are a number of threads and diagrams on steering columns, but they all are the column shift columns.

After taking apart my loose steering column for new lower and upper bearings, I noticed this tube fits nice in the switch and keeps the upper bearing in place.

The tube had slid down out of the switch and wasn't doing anything so I'm wondering how this should go back together and if there's a way to hold it in place. ?

Re: Floor shift steering column

Anybody have a schematic on the floor shift steering column? Like I mentioned, the cone shaped tube had dropped down and was serving no purpose.
