Thanks for documenting everything and sharing with us.

A pal of mine used to do that to the painted bumper on his old 60's cars back when he still messed around with 'em.

that's cool, I shared so we can get away from "honey-do's"

I went to the bottom and it was like a carbon color. I primered of course before paint. I should of mentioned but you can also take it to a near chrome shop. They dip everything an an acid type stripper before the pre-polish. They come out great.

Patience, a small hammer, a small block of wood and more patience. I would rather chaperone a 3rd grade girls Volley ball field trip for a week than straighten a delicate aluminum piece.

no doubt. datguy, you could probably take it to a chrome shop, they have special tools for that....and lots of patience. I wouldn't know what they charge though.

Re: Poor man's '63 aluminum grill

The grill looks great / authentic. Did you clear coat? I didn't see this in your write up, but clear could give some durability? If clear was added should a person use gloss or satin?

I have seen wheels that were painted with chrome paint and they look horrible. Your grill looks really good. Great Job chakah!
