Frame Mounted Brake Booster

Does anyone have pictures of their frame mounted brake booster/master cylinder set up? Trying to get an idea where it needs to mount .

Re: Frame Mounted Brake Booster

i have a frame mounted hydroboost, just made my own bracket using the stock pedal

but someone a few years ago posted the best idea i've seen using the stock pedal and pivot on the old mc
he cut the back end of the stock mc off and ran a heim joint from the pedal, through the old mc and out back to a remote mc
the new mc/booster was 18'' behind the old mc, this gave lots of room for trans linkage and exhaust
sorry no pics

the plus side of using this method is no fab needed for the pedal pivot and no real thought to position of the mc
you can fab the mount with the cab off, the only real thought is the length of the heim joint

mine

Re: Frame Mounted Brake Booster

Here is mine. First time I made a bracket to use the stock pedal and pivot rod that mounted to the original nuts on the frame without a booster. This time I added a bracket for the booster which moved the master cylinder back. I moved it back far enough so that I could put in a interior cab access fill door behind the cab brace. I made my own rod from the pedal to booster out of 1/2" EMT with a nut welded on it for adjustment. MC and proportioning valve is from a 74 truck, booster is hot rod 9".

Re: Frame Mounted Brake Booster

I've got pics in my build thread, I think.
I don't really recommend it. Plenty of guys seem to run it without any trouble... I found it a PITA to bleed the brakes. O'course, if I did things right the first time I wouldn't need to do that much... But I moved my junk to the firewall.

Re: Frame Mounted Brake Booster

might have been me that Ogre was referring to.
I cut the cyl part off of the old master cylinder, and ran the pedal rod under the pedal mount/ reservoir part of the old master.
Then I could just bolt the pedal back onto the old master, and voila! free pedal mount.
I got a 6 inch X 12 inch plate, 1/4" thick, and had a fabricating place bend it in half 90 degrees, then mounted the hydro boost to it, then fabricated a strap to go from the edge of the plate back to the frame for stability. I just bolted the other 90 degree side to the frame with 4 bolts.
There is a perfect place on the inside of the frame with no rivets or obstructions to bolt it to.
Been on there about 17,000 miles so far.

The master/hydro boost I used is from a 1996 chevy dually with a 1 1/4" bore. it mounted perfectly, then I had to make the master cylinder a remote fill.
I peeled off the plastic reservoir and installed two 90 degree fittings into the rubber bungs on the master that the reservoir used to go through, and put a remote reservoir on the firewall with a plate and 3 bolts in the exact same holes as the voltage regulator was using. Then I bent up some aluminum lines (aircraft) and ran the lines from the firewall to the master. I used a polished stainless steel muffler pipe clamp to hold the reservoir to the plate.

Re: Frame Mounted Brake Booster

Can't get photobucket to respond.
Google "my 57 revitalized" and go to page 3. there is all of the brake master cylinder rework pics and the hydroboost installation info.
