VIN Rivets question
On a 1968 GMC would it have the tulip shaped rivets? Where there any that would have a traditional style rivet holding on the VIN plate? Thank you I have been off the forum for a while after I sold the 72 Ambulance but looking to buy another 67-72. Just don't want to get burned buying a truck that has been tampered with.

Re: VIN Rivets question
68 should have standard rosette rivets - they started for GM in the early-mid 60's in the previous era trucks. I THINK 64-65-ish was the first year for rosettes. Post a pic if you can. This is my understanding - but the best source would be someone with a 68 that goes to the garage and looks!

Re: VIN Rivets question
Something to think about...if it was a repaint early on, they drilled out the rosettes and replaced with standard. There is a local guy that has bee in the paint business for over 50 yrs and said that is what they did if it was a color change.

Re: VIN Rivets question
Mine had the wrong rivets also the frame matched and still had the original tag in the glove box. The inspection station in Olathe pAssed it because of the original glove box tag and the frame stamp
