Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
Are you guys using new dakota seals or pulling seals off junk trucks and reusing?

One of the things I like about them is that they have air relief holes every 5". You can see them if you look closely at the top picture in post 25. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 05-24-2015 at 12:34 PM. |

Thanks for the info. everyone. By the sound of things 1968aj, any chance the pair you got weren't Dakota OEM?

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
I used '04 Chevrolet Silvarado door seal. they worked great and as everyone says used are best no break-in time. if your door seals too tightly you can always use a 2 X 4 with a BFH and adjust the pinch weld.

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
After following this for a few days. I went and picked some 1995 Dodge Dakota weather strips from a local junkyard. Only 15 bucks. They fit perfect. Doors close nice and snug. Only modification I did was I had to trim about a inch and half off because it overlapped. Thanks for the great tip!

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
I just installed the push on seals from precision and they are nice except they came up short. I have about 1/2 gap where they should meet. Anyone have that problem?

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
they are designed that way intentionally. the "gap" is to allow the air to escape when shutting the door.

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
I watched the video made by precision and their ends fit tight against each other.

Re: Door weather strips for 71 Chevy - Success stories
I bought a set of the Precision push-on door seals for my '68 and they fit great. Went on easy and no trimming necessary. I had to really slam the doors to get them to shut for the first few weeks, but they are compressing down a little. Still have to push in on the doors to lock them though. All in all, I am happy with them.
