OK--So I've been following your '54 Aviator build in amazement, then I see this thread where you've already done another setup I've been pondering with the reversed intake through the firewall. I like the idea of the outside air coming through the louvers--I was trying to come up with a design that used the cowl vent, and shedding water was an issue.

One thing I was concerned about was the short distance to the firewall--I thought chafing/breaking/squeaking of the intake pipe might be a problem with the engine torque movement and general movement of the body.

After writing this, it occurs to me that this is a pretty insignificant hurdle when I look at your '54 pics!

What chassis is the '51 on?
