That looks kind of familiar - I got to that point on my truck and ended up gutting all of the wiring in favor of a new harness.

Do you have any wires that start as one color and magically appear somewhere else as a different color? Makes troubleshooting kind of challenging, doesn't it?

Worse yet, mine all start as a color - but at the other end, everything ends in black. LOTSA splices and apparently the po only bought black wire...

What's your plan and how can we help? think about any upgrades you might want to go to so you can plan the wiring for them.
HEI ignition
External to internally regulated alternator.
Headlight relay mod.
Electric cooling fan(s)

Work off the electrical forum.

I just finished wiring a '70 that was a drag truck for 30 yrs! They must of thought that wire weight a ton, because they cut everything inside and outside. I built my own engine harness and bought a pretty nice light harness off the classifieds here.

If I was you(or I run into this again) post on the classifieds that you need a complete harness...someone will come to your rescue.

I am leaving the essential wiring, all of that was 50 years of stereos, CB radios and a few things I don't even know what they are..... Like this thing. LOL!

This was up under the dash just above the throttle pedal, and I have no clue what it is.

I think my original existing is actually in good shape. All of that was excess from years of accessories and the like. I did add an alternator with an internal regulator, so that actually eliminated a bunch of wiring.....

This is what I am working with. I swapped the small block 3 speed column shift for an LS 396 t-400. After wiring is done, all I have to do is press in the U-joints and install the drive line, bleed the brakes and an altitude tune up. I dropped 9000 ft since installing the engine and I am sure it is set lean.

Nice truck! I used to have a red/white 68 twin to yours. Your 396 will like all the air at lower altitude.
I'm guessing you're not in Wyoming anymore. Texas??

It looks like your PS belt isn't quite aligned, maybe just the pic.

I moved to the Jackson Mississippi area. Good eye on the PS pump pulley. I need to flip the pulley, or get one for a long water pump set up. I will work those bugs out in time.... Good eye though!

Yes, this is all temporary until I work the bugs out of it. At idle, sitting still during 2000 rpm/20 minute cam break in, it hit 190 degrees and I fanned water into the radiator with the garden hose and brought it down to 175 and held. I will need a shrouded electric fan because 190 is a bit much for these heads.

That thing under your dash was a choke filter for suppressing radio noise. We used to put those in to cut down on the whine from the alternator. They really didn't work all that well, but they were better than nothing.

When I get this together and going, I will find a frame and start work on the frame and do the disc brakes, lines, wires, bushings, fuel cell & lines, paint and mounts. When the frame is done, I will switch everything over to the new frame and leave it at that.

Not planning on restoration or paint. It looks great with the original patina in my opinion. Once you paint over that, it is gone forever. I don't want to do that. We are a group who appreciates fade, dents and scratches. To me, each one tells a story...
