Truck info and advice

Thinking of selling my 4 dr 07, chevy 1500 HD. Wanting something with a 8ft bed and 4x4, earlier model. A friend took a 84 chevy, 1/2 ton 4x4 in on a trade, dual tanks, power windows and door locks, and is a fairly solid truck. Needs a seat and some cleaning up, but runs out good and the 700R shifts good. It has the factory rally wheels also. I'm going to take a better look at it and drive it, and I hope it has a 350. I think they put 305's in some of these didn't they? Anyway, he is asking $2500, I think I can get him down 2 or $300, even if I have to put some money in it, it should be worth that, shouldn't it?

Re: Truck info and advice

It sounds pretty fair to me. Most 1/2 tons came with 305's but there could be a few with 350's.

If it's a stock 1980's 1/2 ton it's a 305. The 350 was used in 3/4 ton and above chassis in the 1980's.

I've had a few 80s 1/2 ton 7 in total. And all had 350s. I thought 350s in half tons were pretty common in our parts.

Re: Truck info and advice

Stock GM USA... Look at the available powertrains pages in the GM Heritage info PDFs.

I can safely say that most of the 1/2 ton US market smallblock pickups were 305CID from 1981-1986.
  • The 305 was the biggest smallblock engine GM US put in the 2wd 1/2 tons from 1981-1986.
  • The 1981 US Federal and California Emissions K10 still could be equipped with a 350.
  • Starting in 1982 US Federal Emissions K10 chassis only got the 305. The California K10 still could get a 350 but it was dropped from the Cali K10 in 1983.
  • In 1983-1985 all US CK 1/2 ton chassis got the 305. You had to step up to a 3/4 ton to get a 350.
  • In 1986 the 4.3L V6 replaced the Inline 6 and the 350 was available on the California K10 but not the US Federal models.
  • The 1987 TBI 350 was available on all US CK 10-30 trucks again.

Probably due to US CAFE standards... You could get the 6.2L diesel in all of the 1/2 ton pickups.

You're in one of the Prairie Provinces in The Great White North. The above applies to the US marketed and sold pickups. GM Canada may be another story.

Re: Truck info and advice

Went and looked at it better today, it is a 305. I'll do a 383 for it and have the 700R cked out. It runs out great and has a clean motor in it, ought to bring a few bucks since you can't find a decent running early sbc around here. Rust in cab corners, but all in all it is a pretty solid truck for this country. P/B, windows and locks. AM/FM cassette, air and tilt. It still has the factory exhaust on it, although not in the greatest shape. Factory rallys, and nice tires. $2000 to $2500 and some work it'd be a pretty nice truck. Where is the best place to get body parts, panels, and maybe some interior stuff? Would like to use a sponsor on here.

Re: Truck info and advice

I have had a few of the 80's had 350's / T400 up here. In 4x4 anyway. I have only seen 305 trucks with the 700.
