just put a 3.73posi rear out of my dads 67 short bed, dont know if this is a problem but every so often there is a loud bang, sounds like a big boulder hit the underside of the bed. Does this sound normal?? Any suggestions??

Did you add posi- additive to the gear oil? I had that problem once. Popped when I turned. Added the additive from the dealer and it quit. I'm not sure what the name of the stuff was, but I think you can get it at NAPA also. Welcome to the board from Louisiana, btw.

Posi plates are like a waffle. 99% of your driving will be in forward so the material from the friction discs will build up on one side of the waffles. The best method to correct this is; Purchase the GM rear diff. additive. Also enough lube to refill the case.
Go to a large parking lot and drive several figure 8's in reverse. This spins the plates in a reverse direction and will break some of the buildup free. It is now suspended in the fluid. Drain the lube. Refill and add the GM additive. Happy driving.

sounds like you either need the additive or your posi is close to being kicked.... my tahoe makes a noise around turns and going straight sometimes.... almost sounds like a locker or spool is in the rear
