Question How much drop?

Hello, Mates.

I have a 71 long bed and I plan on lowering it some..

It has a 2 piece drive shaft..
I have 2" drop spindles to put on it..
How much drop can I add with springs in the front without messing up the alignment , I.E. run out of adjustment and cause it to kill tires fast..

Would 3" drop springs be ok..? or should I stay with 2" instead ?

The rear, how much is to much, here, without needing to notch the frame?
and still have it not on the bump stops or always bottoming out on them..

I may be open to notching the frame, as I'd like it to be level, no rake..

Also is there shims to adjust the pinion angle after you lower these..?
or is this a DIY item?

Thanks for any help on this..

Really like to know how low you can go before you need to c notch..

Most of the threads I have read only show a photo of truck and amount it was dropped..

Re: How much drop?

You can't add any without it moving things in the front. I don't think you're getting any responses because there are hundreds of threads on here pertaining to the same topic.

Re: How much drop?

Are your spindles really 2" or 2 1/2"? Most are 2 1/2" but at least one company makes a 3". If they are 2 1/2", I would stay with the 2" spring. If they are really 2" then you might get away with the 3" spring.

7" appears to be the max in the rear without a C notch. As the other poster suggested, search. There are literally hundreds of posts similar to your questions with many great measurement and parts recommendations.

Re: How much drop?

For the most part 3 5 would be good. More than 5, it is best to notch. There is a thread going on right now about lowered longbeds on this page. Check that out.

Re: How much drop?

Thanks guys,, The wife has been bugging me on what I'd like for X-mas .
The drop spindles are 2.5"
The rear has 2.5" blocks already, So maybe I'll get the front springs at 2" and see where the rear lands as changing out the rear springs is not that hard.
