Re: Well..... shoot

If not mentioned already there is a weap hole in the bottom side of the water pump just forward of the impeller bearings and almost covered up by the water pump pulley, its possible the seal could be going bad, or if sealant was not used on the water pump bolts that go into the water jacket.

Yep, that was one of the first things I was able to eliminate. Water pump stays bone dry and there's no hint of leakage there, no staining at all. Right now it looks like the radiator itself is the culprit.... just need to get it to the city to have it pressure tested.

At least the mystery is solved. It might be repairable.

Re: Well..... shoot

Update, made it to the city today, the radiator is fixed! My research into new ones was for naught, at least for the time being. They found a leak where the outlet tank joined the core, so it was removed and resoldered. Additional leaks were found at the transmission cooler inlet & outlet, and the heater hose nipple. All small but they add up.

Will start installing it tomorrow (no time tonight) and flush the system and give her some fresh Prestone. Wish I hadn't lost that shroud clip, but it stays in place with just one so no worries.

Always a good feeling when a 45 year+ Harrison can be saved. Them's some good radiators right there!

Re: Well..... shoot

Well Tim, I wish that was the case.... but the OEM failed 12 years ago and was scrapped. This was its 4-row replacement.
