Help laying out my '62
Okay guys looking for a little help. I have a 62 pickup, it is notched and bagged on trailing arms in back, and front torsion bars were cut out and the arms plated up front. It's not close to laying out. I have a full donor suspension from an 86' chevy that I plan on using, what's the most cost efficient way to get this thing laid out. Planned on a z with the new crossmember installed up front with 2.5-3"drop spindles up front. 4 link the rear but if anyone has any input I'd greatly appreciate it. Not able to buy any of the dropmembers that are on the market these days so that option is out.

In terms of cost effectiveness (if you can weld and don't mind the work/time to do it) then do a 2 inch Z and cups in the arms up front. You will need some steering joints to clear your upper control arm. Out back you can do a simple 4 link and panhard bar or a three link.
I did pretty much the same thing with my 75 and have very little money into it.

Or you could try pancaking the cross member. I if you do it that way I don't think it will raise the height of the motor like z-ing the frame will. But I might be wrong. I am not fully sure if this will allow you to lay frame.

Re: Help laying out my '62
My 66 has a sectioned crossmember. The previous owner also notched the frame and raised the steering box to fix the bump steer issues it would have caused.
On the 63-66 you can lower your body mounts an inch to make it lower. Not sure if it is the same on the 60-62 though.

Re: Help laying out my '62
A lot of it depends on what tires you want to run, how low you want it to lay out, what ride height you want, etc.
If you just want to lay frame then a 2 inch Z will do the job up front. The rear you will have to measure. You can search the board for how to measure for a step notch. Remember the lower you go the more mods you will need to make. My 75 will lay rocker once I fix my hood hinges, change my oil pan, etc. There are quite a few builds laying frame. Less with the 60-62 but it's relatively the same with the donor front end.

Re: Help laying out my '62
Thanks for the reply
I don't need to lay frame I cut the front clip off years ago and installed a Camaro front frame clip so I wouldn't have to deal with The torsion bars and the ball joints that I couldn't get So the front so it's pretty low the tires and wheels are 20 inch and I just want to get the rear come down and have a four link and get rid of those squishy coil springs. I don't have a problem with modifying the bed just looking to find some measurements to make it out of rectangle tubing.

Re: Help laying out my '62
Thanks Gentlemen, I broke down and ordered the Porterbuilt stage 3 dropmember with control arms and power rack! It's about 8-10 weeks out but once it's here I'll get it all installed and also drop in the new 350 and auto trans I have! Had a buddy look over the rear and it's not gonna take much at all to get it down on the ground.. can't wait to get this thing finally laid out and have much more power from the sbc than the inline 6 that's in her now.

Re: Help laying out my '62
Porterbuilt has rear arches and trailing arms that will get you down. Use the 3" drop ones. Panhard bar as well.
