Bilistine dual steer stabilizer
Hey guys have a quick question.
I have a 70 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 72 front dana 44 (Disc Brakes) and want to install the superlift bilistine dual steer stabilizer. The website says it will only fit a 73-87. Im curious why it will not fit a 71 or 72 dana 44. Im pretty much thinking these axles are very close to being the same. I have a 4" lift and 33s and want to stiffen up the steering. A single stabilizer is ok but a dual set up will be even better. I dont like the looks of the ones offered for my truck so I want to go with the bilistine dual superlift model (SKU: 92714) |

Re: Bilistine dual steer stabilizer
Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with how it mounts to the steering. With that being said, with a welder and a will you can make anything fit anything.

Re: Bilistine dual steer stabilizer
Im thinking its the size of the tie rod. It may be fatter. ORD offers a wider mount for the tie rod. I have one now so Im hoping the super lift center bracket will fit a dana 44 from 71 or 72. I really dont think the steering geometry changed

Re: Bilistine dual steer stabilizer
If it fits a 73 it will fit the 72. the only differences I'm aware of are:
nut down vs nut up on the tie rod ends (tie rod goes on top of knuckle or under knuckle) GM ran "nut down" till mid 70's? steering stabilizer location - somewhere in the mid 70's GM switched the welded axle mount from the driver's side near the spring to the center near the diff. (GM may have switched this when they went to the 10 bolt?) GM switched to the corporate 10 bolt shortly after this, its almost a direct bolt in ( axle tube slightly larger, 3" vs 2 7/8" IIRC) Tie rod diameter - as stated by mattfrediani - you may need to upgrade to the larger diameter tie rod. This is the only difference I can think of. |
