Frame question?
What is different between 69-72 4x4 frames and 73-87 4x4 frames? I have a 67 body on a 72 swb frame and it is trash, i wanted to know if i could use a 73-87 frame, but i wasn't sure about the steering box, or motor mounts or tranny crossmember, thanks

length and wheelbase are all different for one, crossmembers and engine cradle changed just enough to be different, body frame mount brackets also changed, p/s box mounts up same though, heh

i did the swap on my 70 1/2 ton 4x2 to a 79 3/4 4x4 frame
it was alot of work but in the end it turned out nice the frame had to be shortened. i had to put 6 inches of body lift in the front and under the cab, and only 3 inches under the box. but every thing such as motor mounts and cross members worked fine off of the newer pickup after the lift (too clear the short hump in 2wd cab) now it fits 33" tires nicely don't let anyone fool you it is a lot of work but it was all worth it in the end!  ps don't forget the new rear drive shaft and the steering column and all of the little stuff that needs to be done to make this work i wouldn't jump into it unless you like to weld and do metal fab, but remember anything can be done if you are patient and use your brain [This message has been edited by 704x4 (edited April 03, 2002).]

I love to weld and frabricate but i was looking for a more fast and straight foward project. I guess i will keep looking for a 69-72 frame. Thanks alot for the info.

I know of a Long 4x4 frame still has wheels tires,all suspension,4spd tranny hanging there,I could ask if you like,if it was a shorty id already probably own it,im not a LB fan
