57 fenders work on 55 second series
I have 55 3600 pickup in need of front fenders. I located some 57 fenders and was wondering if they interchange. Thanks

Re: 57 fenders work on 55 second series
As long as they are the same series (similar size of truck) they should fit.
55/57 1/2. 3/4 & 1 ton should interchange while the bigger 1-1/2 tons and up are different. Guys have been swapping noses on the tri-5 TF trucks since way back when.

Re: 57 fenders work on 55 second series
Yes and maybe. The 57 fenders will bolt up but the 57 fenders have a special mounting area or pad on each side of the grille opening. There is a flat spot for the 57 grille to bolt to the fenders. So using a 55 or 56 grille might still bolt up but the mounting tab on the fender would be exposed.

57 is a fender unto itself. 55-56 is different. 57 will only use a 57 grill. likewise 55-56 will only use a 55-56 grill

Re: 57 fenders work on 55 second series
maybe these help? sorry, bad pics.
57 has divets in the surround around the grille area that allows the gmc mustache section of the grill to bolt on and wrap around the corner of the fender. I can't speak for the chevy because my truck is a gmc but I assume there must be a grill surround fascia to be bolted on over top of the surround area, chrome pieces maybe? you can see the divets in the pics, one fender is a 57 and the other fender is a 55-56 and hasn't got that divet mark. the duivet is about inline with the hole for the signal light. if yuou google it and check images you will see the depression in the 57 only fenders. |

Re: 57 fenders work on 55 second series
here is a replacement fender face with the divet I mentioned, better pic maybe. my old truck had a 57 fender on one side and a 55-56 fender on the other side. I assumed the gmc mustache wrap around didn't fit well because of damage to the sheet metal on the other front end parts but when i was taking things apart I found the fender didn't have the divet so the wrap around part was unable to fit flush against the fender.
hope that helps you. |

Here is a 57 truck with a 55/56 grill. Notice the flat indentions with the holes on each fender that are 57 specific.
