454 BB Air Cleaner Suggestions
This Spring I will be detailing the engine compartment. I do not care for the Edelbrock air cleaner. I may replace the chrome valve covers as well but I have to find some in the tall style to fit over the roller rockers.
Any suggestions? All opinions appreciated - from more “stock” appearing to custom. Just looking for a bunch of ideas and options to decide what I want to do. Pictures would be great (it does not have to be a pickup). Thanks!

I do like the finned M/T valve covers!
I just dont know if they are tall enough to clear the rockers. It may be close but certainly a possibility.

My friend has those embossed 454 valve covers on his 1970 LS6 Chevelle. He would probably say I was "copying" him if I used them as well.
I have a set of cal speed shop finned valve covers for my '56. I really like finned valve covers but now I am thinking they are more the style for 1950's-60's customs.

BT, I'm kind of a freak, but on my big block, I painted the Edelbrock intake along with the engine, Chevy orange, to make it blend right in. I like stock appearing engines.
Remember about valve covers, when dealing with aftermarket ones, aluminum is your friend. They are much less likely to leak than steel ones.

Tx Firefighter,
Have any pictures of your truck? I was thinking about going more "stock" and use a 402 air cleaner but I am not really sure what to do yet. I just bought the truck not even a month ago, so I have some time to play and add my personal touches. I thought maybe a triangular shaped aircleaner like they used on the tripower 427 Vettes would look neat. Just trying to get a bunch of ideas at this point!

I got the Shotgun Bill's airscoop for mine from Speedway Motors. It looks like really large double shotgun.

on truck yet
Haven't installed it yet just finished rebuilding engine tonight and installing all the billet. Going to set the scoop on tomorrow night to see what it looks like(left it at my shop). Should have the burban ready for the engine to go back in this weekend sometime. I can't wait to see it laying rocker w/ that aircleaner sticking out the hood. later

According to the site, the Shotgun Bill's airscoop will fit single 4bbl or 2-4s.
About how tall is it? I was wondering if I would have to cut the hood if I went with something like this. It is not a high rise manifold and the cowl induction hood would give me a couple more inches of play. I would prefer not cutting the hood if I did not have to.

pics
Don't have pics developed yet(need digital camera), but as soon as I do I will resize and post some.
BT the shotgun is pretty tall, I think mine is going to stick out the hood. It sits about a foot above block surface(just a guess) Think it's gonna look killer in the truck. I'm putting on a single Holley 750 DP. |

Also the intake I'm using is a polished Performance Plus Hurricane which is about 6" from base to carb pad. Hope this helps.

Try a 6-71 and Enderle injection set-up for old school style.
