Considering a 2" lift, what size tires to run?

I currently am running stock suspension with 265/75/16 tires on the wheels. Fills up the wheel wells pretty well and looks like a stock pickup. My ride is pretty rough though and I am looking for ways to improve. Been considering putting on 2" EZ Ride front springs in the front, switching over to 56" or maybe fitting some 64"s springs in the rear to help smooth it out.

Been looking at lots of pictures and doing searches, I'd like to get a little bigger tire to go with the lift. Seems like 33" may be a good choice from what I can see. Not really sure what sizes are out there in 33" tire range. Any ideas, suggestions or pictures of setups would be great. I am running 16x8 wheels, so they would need to fit on that size rim. Thought about 285/75R16 tires as a possibility.

I think those tires would fit. Why not just get the 4 inch lift instead? These trucks came with 235/75r15 on some of them so the 265s are already 3 inches taller.

I don't want to lift 4", I'd like to stay closer to stock height, but just lifting a little to improve ride. Seems like I feel every bump right now.

I put 2" EZ Ride springs on mine to make it easier to fit big tires and also to level the truck. The rear seemed to be 2" higher than the front since it is driven with an empty bed 90% of the time. Now the front is about 1" higher than the rear. If I was more OCD it might bother me, but I think it looks aggressive and it really attacks the mud bogs. I don't know the metric conversions off the top of my head but in the end I was running 35x12.50 tires with some fender trimming. I probably wouldn't have had to trim fenders for 33's. My fenders were already trimmed for 33's with the stock springs.

I don't notice a big difference in ride on the road. The stock springs pretty much ride on the bump stops. Once you get off road those impacts are brutal. That's when the extra spring arch comes into play and soaks up the bigger bump much better. I have Rancho shocks and many people don't like them. Maybe that's why my truck still rides rough on the road, not sure. For that reason I would recommend any other shock than the Rancho and it may get some different road manners.

You don't say, but from your post I assume a K10.

I put the EZRide 2" front and 3" rear to even out the fender gaps above the tires. The 2" fronts ride a lot better because they are positive arch, where the stock springs are negative arch. Another trick with the backs. You want the same rolling radius front and rear, not the same air pressure. Running empty in the back, run them about 5 psi less than the front. I run mine 32 psi in the front and 28 psi in the back. Rides a lot better.

Mine started life as a K10, now I'll call it a K15. Its a K10 with a 14 bolt and 8 lug axles under it, sort of a hybrid of a K10 and K20.

I put a rough country 2" lift in my truck. It rides way better than it did stock. 33" goodyear duratracs.

Jayson, thats a nice looking truck. I really like the tire/lift combo. What tire size are you running there? 33x10.5x15? Looks like stock 15" wheels.

I am considering a 2 inch lift myself on my 1985 k 30 . Anyone fit 315 m/t s on a 2 inch without trimming ?

I ran a 2" tuff county ez ride lift with springs front and rear and bilstien shocks with the extended front mounts. Got it all from ORD. Rode great. I think 285/75r16 are your tire size for that much lift. 315 would need 4" if you plan on turning or going over bumps. Also note the wheel openings are different heights front and rear. Measure to the body line for level. My truck had 32x11.5r15 in this pic.

This is an interesting thread as I have a 91 Suburban I am considering getting a 2in lift kit, as the front springs are sagging bad. I was considering just a front spring replacement but the kits are pretty well priced for all they include. Would you use the shocks that come in say, a Superlift kit?

You might also be able to play around with some of the metric sizes and see what you can find in a 33ish size. I have 275/75/R18's on my new project that are closer to 34" tall with no lift (for now anyways). I never thought I'd like 18's on a square body but I needed at least 17's to clear my planned brake upgrade and I scored them on the cheap. Now they're really growing on me and I don't have any plans to replace them until I do a Dana 60 swap in a few years...
