Power brake booster

I am in the process of installing CPP 2.5 inch drop spindles and disc brakes on my 68. I am looking for a power brake booster, master cylinder, and prop valve set up. Is there a OEM combo that works that I can grab at Autozone/Advance? Also whats the difference between the 9" and 11" Booster? Thanks

Also here is a update on my truck. Almost finished my 68 camaro gas tank conversion. C notch installed with 5 inch drop springs and adjustable anti squat cross member.

If just discs up front... use a 1971-1972 booster combo.

I have a '70 C10 that this summer I converted from drum/drum to disc/drum, at same time used CPP disc conversion kit with 2 1/2" drop spindles. I got my master cylinder/power booster from Summit. The prop valve from Summit had the wrong lines since the valve has to be turned on its side and use different lines between the prop valve and master cylinder. Reason for that? My front & back brake lines come up vertically and didn't fit. So call CPP and ask about possible need for new front brake line kit and right hydro lines between prop valve and master cylinder.

Since you are replacing the brakes and are already in there, might consider swapping out upper and lower controls arms. I used CPP. Glad I did as my old attach points were worn out.

My CPP disc brake conversion kit required a sway bar with end links which mine didn't have, so had to order a new endlink swaybar.

You'll need the CPP PV-TOOL when bleeding the CPP prop valve or it might damage the valve.

I used the Motive Products 105 Brake System Power Bleeder from Amazon. Fantastic help. Place chains furthest aft and forward and then tighten well.

However, you will need the firewall to booster mounting brackets. My guess is 67-72 parts would work.

I'm sure there are some aftermarket kits available, too, but I have to tell you they never seem to get the master cylinder bore and booster sizes right for a specific vehicle. Many are one-size-fits-all with the only difference being the brackets. As if a Camaro with front disc/rear drum requires the same components as a truck with drum/drum. Also, you don't need a proportional valve unless your truck has front discs. But you can bet some vendors will tell you otherwise. The valve in my picture above is there to work with the 73-87 front disc brakes.


Early Classic Enterprises sells a booster with brackets, but it's not cheap. The good news is they've been selling 60-72 truck brake and suspension parts for more than 20 years, and that's all they do.

Buy the kit from CPP along with your other parts. Turn-key.

Ok the difference between a 9" booster and a 11" is the vacuum you have when you press the brake pedal. I had original 11" and got a deal from a friend for a 8" booster chromed to use on my 71 with Disc/Disc setup. I never did like the feel oft after the 11" one so I went back to the 11".

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread, but can you use a drum booster with a disc master? I've got a C20 drum booster in my truck, and I'm doing a similar swap as the OP.

This could also be relevant to the OP since drum boosters are probably way easier to find than 71-72 only stuff.

Don't do it. CPP replace three boosters and all of them leaked. Not a fan of CPP.
