250 with Clifford intake and Weber 38/38
Hoping someone may have a pic they could share.
I have a chev 250 6cyl and a Clifford intake with a Weber 38 carb. Looking for ideas on linkage. Was thinking of going with a lokar cable, but figured maybe someone has come up with a linkage setup that would work?? If you have any ideas, they'd be appreciated. |

Not that particular setup, I have a 4bl Edelbrock on an Offy intake. Rather than mess with a cable, I used a generic bellcrank mounted on a carb base plate to use solid rod linkage making a 90 degree translation of the push/pull. can post a pic if you need to see.

Here ya go. Now your weber may mount "inline" and just need a cable, or other bellcrank, but with a typical 4bl, the carb sits 90 opposed to the stock throttle rods, so we have to make a 90 degree turn. Some use a cable, I used a bellcrank.
In the second picture I draped out everything but the linkage so it is easier to see. I used a generic carb plate for throttle cable mounting, but had to cut, flip and weld the horn so it was the proper position. The bellcrank and rods ends came from Speedway parts. The bellcrank uses a spacer to get it up to the right height and for clearance. I think I threaded my own rods after cutting to length. Took some engineering, but works great as I retained the stock gas pedal and pivot mechanism.

Cool setup.
Thanks for taking the time to post pics. Off topic of the original post, but all the old cars I've had to this point had road draft tubes. Do you run your pcv to the manifold or to the air cleaner? And is there a difference other than esthetics? |

PCV valve must run to intake/carb to have adequate vaccum to operate. My Edelbrock carb has a port for PCV hose. The "to the air cleaner" hose you see on engines is the fresh air intake to the crankcase. I am using a vented oil filler cap as the fresh air in. google PCV systems if you don't have a good understanding.

Just a thought - you might try looking at a throttle cable for a Mustang. Many of the Ford throttle cables have a built in throttle return spring which sure keeps things neat looking. A fiend of mine installed Tunnels on his 72 Vette. For his application we just happen to find a 68 Ranchero with a 6 cylinder. The throttle cable just happened to be the perfect length. No added return spring or mechanical linkage required other than to connect the 2 carburetors together. You would of course also need to convert your throttle pedal assembly to a cable type from say a 72 C-10. My throttle pedal linkage came from a 75 full size Pontiac and the throttle pedal itself came from a 72 Nova.
The first picture is of a Mustang throttle cable, the next 2 are of my cable conversion in my 64 C-10. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the tunnels with linkage on the 72 Corvette - that was done over 30 years ago. I did have to heat & bend the Pontiac linkage to get it to fit my truck but I've read that a 72 C-10 throttle pedal assembly is pretty much a Bolt In thing. |

I ended up using a lokar cable and pedal.
If I were to do it over again, I'd probably use a different pedal, not because of function but looks. Fabbed a throttle lever, spot to attach return springs and cable adjustment mount out of bar stock. Split the water hoses and ran heat to the manifold. Also added some of Langdons cast iron headers -sound awesome Messed with the idle jets a bit and settled on 65s. Set the high idle and choke... done Took me a while to get finished, but I'm very happy with the carb/intake combo. Previously had a Weber 32/36 installed w/adaptor on a stock manifold. This combination is a huge improvement in throttle response throughout the rpm range. Top end also increased to faster than I usually drive. T5 trans by the way. I was contemplating going with a Holley 390 over the Weber 38 when I first started in on this project. I don't know if one is better than the other, however I'm completely satisfied with my decision.
