how can I tell what year my frame is?
How can I tell what year my frame is I bought a 1968 truck when I looked up the vin it says the trucks a 6 and 2wd . so I think its a difrent frame. I want to get a lift for it but the suspension on a 69 is different then a 68 The one thing I now it has front drums not disks I no the disks dint come tell 70-71 any one no how to tell the difference thanks

frame code
You can check the vin # on the frame, It should be on the driver side on the straight section under where the cab sits, It is ethed into the frame you may have to sand it off a little if there is a lot of paint or rust on it to see the number, the year is in the vin code the sixth number is the last number of the year it is it should go like this CEI149 the 9 means its a 69 or CEI148 if its a 68 I think!!

it is also on top of the frame rail between the cab and steering gear box

Just to make things more difficult, some of the GMC frames were not stamped.

not that this is any help ,but i just sand blasted my frame,and i found numbers in 6 differant spots,3 diff places on both sides,drivers side was just rear of the wheel,then bout the middle of the frame on the side and just rear of the wheels in the back,and then just the oposit on the right side.

where are you getting your vin # from.your title?or from the glove box sheet?cab?
