has anyone placed a SWB truck on an 88-98 chassis?

I'm not really an LS guy and the 99-06 are way more expensive in my area than a 88-98. I found a real good 95 with stick:-) for reasonable because body is banged up. I know my 61 is 115 WB and the 88-98 is like 117? thanks ,crossy

I don't think it will just bolt and go, but you can probably square that 2 inch difference and make the wheels fit the wells as the front wheels always seem to sit in the rear of the front fenders on the 60's. I'm pretty sure you will need to fab mounting. the frames will be quite different in that aspect.

Your much better off taking the drive train out of the 95 and putting in the 61. Also the 95 would have a SBC similar to what you have but a little more efficient.

Re: has anyone placed a SWB truck on an 88-98 chassis?

Ya, I'm familiar with drivetrain choices, and I know it's not just going to bolt on. was just waiting to see if anyone said "I tried it don't bother, or "it was the best thing I ever did". My 61 needs work on old H09?? rear ,so it's time to decide whether or not to bolt(weld) in the 85 3.42 10 bolt I have or upgrade completely to anopther chassis and make it 4x4 in the process. thanx, Crossy

Re: has anyone placed a SWB truck on an 88-98 chassis?

The '88-'98 frames are way different than the '63-'72 frames. I personally would not attempt such a frame swap. I have seen a couple started and not finished due to the difficulty. Lots and lots of cutting and modifying the body in addition to the new body mounts. Otherwise you will end up with a sizeable body lift. That's okay if you're building a 4x4.

Then there is the legal issue of the body and frame having different VIN's.

Re: has anyone placed a SWB truck on an 88-98 chassis?

I knew an Air Guard Sgt that was putting a '64 cab on an S10 chassis- but he was leaving the floor & firewall of the S10 in place & grafting the '64 on to it! Man you talk about a mess! He got called to Packetafastan or someplace & I lost track of that project. I spect it's pushed up in a pile behind the shop someplace by now...
