introduction
Hello from the cold country. Great site, been lurking for years. Thought I would finally post a couple of pics. 69 C10 originally a 307 3OTT, now with a 30 0ver 396 (402), t400 with shift kit, 373 posi rear. 1969 block, 802 heads, air gap intake, 770 holley carb, headman long tube headers, 2.5 in. dual exhaust.
Truck purchased out of Washington state in 06. Busy first year with disassembly, shortening, frame cleanup and por15, lowering 3.5/6, drivetrain install, and metal replacement in usual body locations. Then life got in the way and a few medical issues to take care of. Now ready to get back into it. Never too late right? First time loading pics so we'll see. Thanks for looking. |

Welcome from Ohio. I am a long time lurker also. I had wanted a C10 for years and finally purchased one in October. Looks like you have a nice truck there.

that's a 70's rake and tire combo if I've ever seen one - looks great. Any details on the zig-zag cut on the bed shortening? Seems it might be a good idea to help avoid oil canning/distortion/preserve that curve in the bodyline there in the re-stitch process, but not sure - have never seen it done that way before - or perhaps just to allow the stake pocket to remain intact. Welcome, nice truck.

Thanks all for the replies. That 70's stance is because i'm old and thats how we did it back in the day. As far as the bed cut, I did that way because it originally had dual aux. tanks.

No sorry, no build pics. First time getting this involved in a rebuild, and most of the work was done back in 06/07 before I knew this forum even existed.
Since I have gotten back into it, have run in to a couple of problems. Has anyone ran into a issue with gas in the oil? Pan was at least a quart overfilled with a strong smell. turns out the holley mechanical fuel pump was bad. Took it apart to find the large rubber diaphram was partially hard an crumbly. Pump arm and opening in block both smelled of gas. Have replaced with stock pump. Engine has been tore down to short block. checked cam bearings and lobes for wear, still looks good. Hopefully crank and rod bearings ok. With this cold weather, heating garage is going cost a fortune. |

It's common for gas to enter the crankcase when the mechanical fuel pump fails. Time for an oil and filter change too. It should be alright. Sitting is hard on vehicles.
Oh shoot. I see you are in Minnesota. Dang you've got a long cold winter to get it ready for spring.

Yes it has been sitting for quite some time. Im sure ethanol didnt help. Oil has been drained, filter replaced, gas tank drained an cleaned, fuel lines flushed and new pump installed. Will find out more after re-assembly of engine, have all winter to finish. |
