E-brake on a LWB w/ TH400 ??? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

here's my situation. My longwheel base had no intermidiate e-brake cable or e-brake rod on the passanger side. I ordered the cable from ChevyDuty for a 127" wheelbase with a turbo 400. I took the rod off of another truck that was a 3 speed truck. Now that I have all this installed, the cable is up against the tranny mount when engaged. Can someone give me a clue as to how this should be routed and if the rods are different. My assembly manual was of no help on this one.

The intermediate cable should pass thru a "guide" that is bolted to the x-member. Do you have this guide on yours? Wish I had a pic, sorry.

nope don't recall any guides on the cross member, there was a guide on the passanger side frame but there is no way I'm going to able to get the cable to go into it and all the other places it is suppose to be. I'm not opposed to a pencil drawing

I have the items circled in Green, the items in yellow I do not have. I ordered the correct cable... I checked that. could the items circled in green be different on a th400 truck? it's like the e brake cable is too long or the rod and front cable are too short...

I guess it's really not that big of a deal since I don't use that brake much, but I would like to get it better than it is now. I may have to fab up something and make it work since my truck is compiled of several diferent ones...

The way mine is run is it hooks on the back at the cables like in the pictures then I ran it through to ebrake cables guides I bought in the help section at auto zone. They bolt through the frame and work great. Then there is a rods that come out of pass side frame from the front and the cable from the brake cable inside. Then there are 2 c shaped clips on the left and right that bolt to the trans cross member. If you look at the cross member I bet you see to bolt holes where the brackets use to be. They bolt on the back side facing the rear of the truck they are about 2 to three inches apart. I will take some pics if you need them.

There is a bracket on the transmission cross member for the TH 400 equipped trucks as CPNE mentioned. I have a cross member and can post a pic tomorrow night if you are interested.

I looked through the assembly manual again and think I found the brackets ya'll are talking about. Mine are definately MIA. Does anybody know if these are available aftermarket? or does anybody have some they can part with?

pics of the cable slide mount that i bought the mount to the frame and keep it from binding up they made the cable work alot smoother

You say Auto zone? I looked at O'Reilly's tonight and didn't see any.... I guess I'll lower my standards and Go to Zone...I'll try pep boys first then Autozone...
