Radio questions
first off, Merry Christmas.
I have a barn find 1970 chevy c20, it has the original AM radio in the dash, but doesn't work. when I turn the nob I can hear it click as if it is turning on, but no sound comes out, no static, no nothing. the radio antenna is missing, but wouldn't it still send static? any advice would be awesome, I know nothing about radios. Thanks! |

Re: Radio questions
Maybe the speaker is shot. If it's the original one. Try hooking up a speaker to it. And the antenna hooked up. There's probably been a lot of hands under the dash over the years. Good luck.

Re: Radio questions
I happen to like the original AM radio, I just think it goes with the character of our trucks. If this was my problem, I'd just remove the radio, which is a simple operation, and take it to a suitable work area. Hook up a power supply (12 V DC), and an antenna, and see whether it works on the bench. If it does not, then take it to a radio service tech, it is a simple radio, and easily fixed. If it does work, then you know it is either the antenna, including he cable, or the speaker, with the associated wiring. No rocket science in either area.

Re: Radio questions
yeah, I guess I will just have to mess with it. now that I've looked at it, I notice a wire disconnected, it looks like it might be coming from the antenna. I will plug that in and see what happens. Thank you!

Re: Radio questions
you have to have an ant and speaker hooked up when testing the radio , turning them on without can toast it .

Re: Radio questions
The old speaker paper and cone wire deteriorates to the point that there is no connectivity. X2 on make sure you have at a min a good speaker so you don't blow the radio.
