Removing exhaust manifolds?

Hey guys

I gotta drop my exhaust system to do some welding on it so I can use the truck to haul some appliances tommorow, but when I was talking with my father he told me that the bolts often snap off when you go to take them out.

Is this a common problem? I pulled the manifolds off the 76's block without any problems, but I don't wanna wreck my heads trying to get the exhaust manifolds off...

I took the manifolds off my 85 to put headers on, the bolts all came out very easily. Maybe I was just lucky, or the PO had them off before I bought it.

Yeah, the 76 had never had the manifolds off for sure, and I had no problems at all... I've taken two or three off my truck as well, to get stuff that was mounted to them off. I guess it should be fine then.

We replaced the manifold on the Straight 6 truck before we took it off the road due to a hole in it, some of it's bolts broke off and had to be drilled out. According to my dad's friends (the mechanic who did the job) this is a common problem, sometimes you just get lucky though and none of them break.
