Sorry for reviving a dead thread, but I wanted to see if this awesome idea has been upgraded technology wise. I'd love to do something like this with a current screen setup.

i think it you have the right bracket for it , it wouldnt be to big of a change to put a smartphone in the tray and hook it up to the radio or an amp in the car using a bleutooth receiver
other than that i think if you start looking around you find plevty of new swivelpieces maibe even some sort of electric setup using servo's and a arduino making it work or sumtin like that
