1971 chevy c10 bed work.

Alright I have the bed off my truck and all of the old bolts that hold the bed together out. All I have left is to cut the welds at the tail gate area to take it all apart. My question is should I do this and work on each pice and put back together and is it hard to line back up correctly. It is a fleet style all metal no wood. I want to make sure all the rust is fixed and coated I don't want to do a half way job. Please weigh in on this forum with your opinions and experience thanks.

The only way you can be sure you have all of the surface rust coated is to take them apart. As long as you have a good tape measure they are not hard to put together at all. When you have it all re-assembled and square I would re-weld the rear stake pockets to the bed floor. Make sure you have the tailgate installed so you can check the gaps on the right and left sides of the gate. I don't think the original style bolts are available. All of the replacement bolt sets I have seen the heads are different. The heads on the original bolts are flatter and smooth. Maybe someone will chime in on a good bolt replacement set....
