Door binding on hinge post area
To original post: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=680781
I know it's been awhile, but revisiting this thread. I think I have determined that the door is binding on the hinges when trying to close it. Almost as if the door is too short. Do the door to cab hinges slide back? As you can also see, there are a ridiculous amount of shims on the latch plate that were probably put in place because of this. I know the hinge the door controls the in and out of the door, which I will fix. Any insight will be greatly appreciated, as you can see the fenders are off and I'm ready to roll. |

Yes the hinge will slide back and forth and up and down. Loosen the three bolts on the cob pillar and adjust away.

I would only do one hinge at a time. Start with the bottom one first. Draw around the hinges with a fine felt tip pen so you can tell how far you have moved it. LockDock

Re: Door binding on hinge post area
Before loosening like said above take a sharpie and make reference marks on the cab pillar to show you where you are. Take one of the bolts all the way out or at least far enough to see in the hole to see if you have any room for improvement. By taking out the bolt you can tell if it is all the way to the end of the adjustment. I had to slot out some hinges recently and by the way the shim pack between the cab corner and the latch plate is nowhere near excessive. I have just seen one with 7 that is right SEVEN shims on top and bottom behind the latch plate.
Ok, if you try every thing you can and still cant get the door back put a fender shim[pretty thick one] between the door and the hinge and that will move the whole door back in the door opening. If it is a new door measure your door compared to a OE to see how much taller the new one is. I had to drill out the welds holding the door hoop on and dropping it down into the door to make it fit. You can also put the vent glass in and tell how much too tall the hoop is by the old marks on the glasses rubber. |

Re: Door binding on hinge post area
Bolts on the door move the door in and out. Bolts on the cab move the door forward and backward....
