700R4 help!!
Resealed my intake manifold Monday. Put it all back together and now the transmission shifts worse than it did before (WAY too early upshifting). I added a little more tension to the TV cable with no change. It used to shift early, but tolerably, but now it's so early I might as well start off in 2nd. Removing the TV cable from the throttle linkiage and putting it right back shouldn't have changed anything... Please help!

I am not close to a trans guru but I do have a 700r4 in my 70 442. Give it one more click on tension and check. I had to play with the TV cable on my 442 to get the shift better from 1 -2. Even add another click and check. I take the TV cable is still connected in the trans. I plan on putting a 700r4 in my 67 k10 in the future.
I will say this but may be wrong, the added tension adds more pressure earlier making the trans think it is more under excelleration -- thus delaying the shift. Am watching this thread so I can learn more. I may put the 700r4 in my 67 k10--will have to change shaft and put a 200r4 in the olds. dunno $1400 is holding me up. 8-)

the initial problem is that nothing changed in the tension from before and after the manifold reseal. The body of the cable is as far back toward the firewall as it can go, and I ad tension with a stop screwed onto the cable. If I ad any more tension, the TV cable will be limiting where WOT is, not the throttle cable.

Maybe you have looked at many of these but you might just need to start over on adjustment. Maybe something moved when you removed it.

I'm lucky to do things just twice.
According to that article, a broken or disconnected cable would cause late or never upshifting. Wouldn't a broken or disconnected cable be the same as totally loose?

Another 1/4 of adjustment timed the shifts later, but they are still very faint. Maybe a touch more... pretty tight at idle, tho
