Need help with some door parts

Getting back to working on my truck after taking a few months off. Working on the door latches.

I got the passenger door together pretty easily, but the driver door had a surprise. The threaded plates in the door jam are missing. I have looked online in the typical sources: LMC, Classic, etc. and have not been able to locate them.

Any suggestions who might sell them? or a forum supplier that could pull them from a rotted out cab?

Here is the door jam where the plates slide into the slots:

Here are what the plates look like, but I need 2 more for the other side:

Also just curious, I purchased some reproduction door mechanisms, but it appears that the mounting plates are reversed. I can make them work OK, but will likely have to drill a new hole for the 3rd bolt. Am I missing something? These were from LMC and I looked on other websites and the pictures are the same as my parts.

Thanks in advance,

Donny

Someone who has changed to more modern latches should have a pair. Everything I have is under a foot of snow so it would be hard to dig out a pair right now.
It might be simpler to make your own out of some bar stock though. Measure, drill, tap, take the cut off disk and make some serrations for a grip on the metal and done.

Re: Need help with some door parts

I got mine from Classic Industries and they look like the silver ones in your picture and appear to be configured right.

thanks Daze57, Appreciate the offer, but I don't need the latches. Maybe someone will speak up that can use them.

It is cobraffr that needed the serrated plates. Hope you can find what he needs.

Re: Need help with some door parts

Here is what I think my door looked like originally. The triangular plate points up and matches up with a threaded mounting hole in the door. I can make the aftermarket mechanism work, but I would have to drill a 3rd mounting hole or just mount it with two bolts. My truck is a 1948 which I know is an early version and a little different than some of the later models (cab mounts, gas tank location, etc).

On a funny side note. My name is also Donaldo so reading the posted replies the first time was a little confusing and entertaining. What are the chances that two Donaldos both have old Chevy trucks and would be on this forum. Not a common name and I have not run across another Donaldo other than my father

Re: Need help with some door parts

Please don't take this wrong, but doesn't the long lever just pivot around the latch part so it can be rotated 180 and flipped from door to door? It almost looks like they installed the lever 180 out if its cannot be rotated.

As I remember they don't swap side to side. The spring direction is the issue. Now, that being said, originally they were wrong, the arm went UP and not down! I think we have talked about this here before but every single one of these trucks I have ever seen they were wrong from the factory. I pulled them apart and made them work correctly and welded them back together because it drove me nuts looking at them in the door wrong.

On the nuts that hold the striker, just make them! Take a strip of metal, drill and tap the holes and get them in there to drive with a smile on your face, done deal. I don't believe they need the slots in them, I have worked on 335,271,695 cars in my life that had very similar nuts without any grooves, just flat metal.

Re: Need help with some door parts

Brian, I am just being lazy. I could make the part, but I have so much other stuff to do on the truck I thought I would try to save to time and find some original parts online.

Orrie, I tried to swap sides, but spring mechanism only works one direction.

Looks like it is time to get off the forum and do some work in the garage. Thanks for all the suggestions and comments.

Hi Donaldo, my given name is Donald, my late fatherinlaw called me Donaldo. Glad to meet you, we're all truck family. And my last name is Harris - and Houston is in 'my' county....

Re: Need help with some door parts

The door remotes (relays, if you prefer) in early production had the connecting bar horizontal, like yours. For some reason Chevy changed them to the style that angles downward toward the rear where they attach to the door latch.

All repros I've ever seen are that later, angled style like your silver ones. You would simply install those in the pre-existing screw holes (pointed end up) and attach the bar at an angle down to the latch. That's why they're slightly longer, to accommodate the angle.
