Power steering box tab removal

This question is about the removal of the tabs on my power steering box. I've been looking at them for years now and finally decided to cut them off to clean up the box. When I open the front tilt clip the box is right in front. But before I do any hacking and grinding it would be nice to know if there are voids or hollow spots under the tabs. Anybody know?.
Thanks
Earl

Re: Power steering box tab removal

It's been 40 years since I had one of those apart but I don't think that they have any hollow areas or passages. I've always thought that they were there to hold the box in a fixture for either machining or assembly or both.

Re: Power steering box tab removal

Hey mr48chev. Thats what I was thinking. That power steering box and the T5 are the only parts of CJ that I havent taken apart to repair. I'm waiting for just a little bit of better weather to do this job but eventuality I will find out.
