rubber bed mat questions

has anyone bought a bed mat from Summit or anywhere else that claims to be a fit for your particular year and bed size? I'm curious as to how well they fit or if any cutting is needed, or if the mat is square (rectangle) or if there are cut-out for the wheels tubs. Summit lists the mat for a '72 short bed as being 78.25 inches long and 48.5 inches wide. Those are good numbers if the mat just fits between the wheel tubs. Anybody have any experience with this or another spot that would have one?

Re: rubber bed mat questions

No experience but I'd guess those dimensions are for a SWB stepside...

Re: rubber bed mat questions

you're right, it does say stepside. after a couple hours of searching, I'm beginning to believe that, like a drop in plastic liner, there aint one to be found. I wonder what would even be a close fit?

Re: rubber bed mat questions

I bought one from Les Schwab tires, they have them in two thicknesses, 3/8" and 3/4", they are rectangular and fit the bed width perfect and for my short bed I had about an 18" piece left over from the length, I did have to cut out for the fender wells but it was easy to do with a jigsaw. The mats are made of chopped up tires I think and look very nice. I bought one for my 69 about ten years ago and it still looks new.
They really quite down the bed, you can really hear a difference after it's installed. If you have a Les Schwab in your area check it out. It cost $79 for either thickness.

Re: rubber bed mat questions

I bought a bed mat for a longbed and a shortbed from Summit for a 1973-87 Chevy truck and they fit good. The only downside is that you have a small cutout for the gas tank on the later model trucks.

do you have a pic? because if the cutout aint that noticable, I may go that route.

Re: rubber bed mat questions

Summit's website shows a mat for $70 (okay) --- $10 delivery & handling charge (ummm, okay) -- and $99 terminal delivery ($109 to your door).

No thank you.

I've been thinking of getting a bed mat... gonna keep looking.

Re: rubber bed mat questions

That's odd, I went back to try it again and it says $89.40, delivered, for a universal mat.

When I tried again (Chevy mat), I got the same prices I posted above.

Must be a glitch in their system. I'm sure a phone call would straighten it out.

It is a long bed but the short bed one fits good too. I used to be able to find the 1973-87 mats everywhere but most places do not carry them anymore. I guess the trucks are 23 years old now, where has the time gone.

Did it come like that (Wheel Wells) or did you have to cut it yourself?
I'd be up for purchasing one, but I want it to "Fit outta the Box".

Re: rubber bed mat questions

That looks good.

I bought a universal mat from a camper store for $50. A box cutter, 10 minutes, and it fits my SWB like a glove.

Re: rubber bed mat questions

Ordered this universal mat to cut out a exact fit for my K5 blazer.
(Looks like summit discontinued the short bed mats.)
