67 C10 converting to power brakes.
I am the happy new owner of a 67 c10. I just bought the truck last weekend. I have many projects that in time I hope to accomplish.
I drove the truck from South Carolina to NH. The truck has original non power drum brakes. I really would like to change to power brakes then to disc. Can anyone tell me the best way to convert to power? Can I just add the brake booster? If so, would I just go to the junk yard and get out of a 67-72 c10? Any help here would sure be appreciated. Thank you. |

heres what you need.... the booster, booster to firewall brackets, and the pedal rod... go look for a 67-70 c10 or c20 (try to find a 3/4 or bigger truck because they have a bigger better booster) and while your at the junkyard might as well take the booster to... pull it off as one complete assembly should run you about 50 bucks

I did a power brake conversion on my 69 GMC but not disc brakes yet. The powerbrake conversion is pretty simple. You need the booster, bracket and pedal rod assembly. All the stuff bolts right up. The only modification may be your brake lines. For discs you will need a proportioning valve but for drums you don't.
For the vacuum on the booster I just connected to the intake manifold. To start, unbolt the master from the firewall and get it out of your way. Disconnect the manual brake pedal assembly. Install the rods to the booster and slide the new pedal rod through the firewall. Connect the booster to the bracket and connect up the pedal rod at the pedal. Make sure you have the correct rod from the master cylinder to the booster and mount the master cylinder to the booster. Connect the brake lines (rebend them or make new ones if needed). Bleed the system and go! Good luck. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Most of the parts vendors on the board can get you the parts you need. I got mine through CPNE and got a really good deal and it all worked great! I got a booster, master cyl (w/ bolt on cap), and porp. valve from a 69 C20 if your intrested. Will let it go cheep. Dont know what shipping will be on it. But that might make it not worth the while. I think CPNE is in your neck of the woods or not far from you. Jeff (CPNE) is a great guy and Gets my thumbs up for used parts. He should be able to hook you up with every thing you need.
