66 GMC 5500? parts truck

I bought a 1966 GMC I'm guessing 5500 series truck tonight. It hasn't run in about 2 years and the brakes are down. I bought it for the grille and hood, also plan to use any other misc parts I can for my project. I'm going to try to pick it up this weekend if the weather permits. Looks to have a lot of good sheet metal on it' but I'm not at all familiar with this size truck. It has a v-6 in it, how do I tell which one it is? I will post pics when I get it home.

If it's a 5500, I would say that it's going to have a 401 in it.

Re: 66 GMC 5500? parts truck

Well guys I got the truck picked up yesterday. It is a GMC 4000 and has a 305 in it. I was able to put some fluid in the master cylinder and get the brakes pumped up, and with some fresh gas and a battery I had it running. I was able to drive it to where I was going with it. Here are some pictures, not bad for 250.00. Like I said earlier I bought it for the hood and grille, to use on my short bed.. The cab has a lot of roof damage from big loads, and some other rust issues. So guess it will be a parts truck.

It looks very restorable. Sheet Metal is not bad.

Interesting that it has the Wider Fenders, but yet only 6 Lug Wheels.

You got a great deal.

Your comment about the wheels raises a question that I've had for a while, why all of the different lug patterns? Does the 5/10 have a greater weight capacity than the six lug? If not why ever do the 5/10? If the 5/10 is stronger then why offer the six lug?

I'm not sure myself, lol. I do know in my experiences, that the 5/10's GVW is usually 19,500. What is the GVW on your 4000?

Also the Wide Fender trucks, which usually indicates a heavier Front Axle usually has Spoke Wheels or 10 Lug Wheels on '63 to '66 Chev/GMC trucks.
