Bench seat foam repair?
1970 C10 bench seat question
The drivers side foam is too soft and unformtabke. Simply wore out I'm guessing. The rest of the seat foam is firm and I good shape. Question is 1. Has anyone cut off the drivers side foam and stacked and glued new foam to biuld it back up. 2. I saw a video of a clothes steamer that brings old foam shape back to life. The steam makes the foam expand and enlarge again. Has anyone trucked this technique? Any advise appreciated. Thanks. Mark |

Re: Bench seat foam repair?
I'm in on this thread. My 69, with the "full foam" seat, has problems on the driver's side, and it sounds the same as yours. The foam has basically collapsed to the point where it is too soft, and the driver sits in a kind of hollow area.
Solutions please.

Re: Bench seat foam repair?
Check the seat springs almost every Dr side I've seen has broken springs.
Cheap fix. Jy's are filled with truck seats with good foam and springs. Find some foam and trim you'res out and patch in a good peice. Some 3m spray contact cement will bond it together extremely well. To cut and shape foam a powered kitchen carving knife works wanders and a very rough sanding disc helps too. I've found even old recliners can have springs that can be wired Or clamped onto broken ones to help stiffen them up. This is gonna be very redneck here but on my older boys 67. Around the sides of the driver side it was really weak. You would Almost slide off it either forward or towards the door. I used a round pool noodle and slid it around into the outer springs and it wrapped around the side and it give alot more support to the seat. Poor man's way but it worked well.

Hey I got this one! Because this topic was my very first post to this forum
Here is a link to my old post with lots of photos.. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=677940 Do a search in the archives for Bench Seat Foam because I learned later that others had already posted similar and better information than me on the topic. There are lots of links but just check 'em all and you'll learn everything you need to know on the topic from this most excellent board. |
