Re: Should i give up?

Never give up. that's how someone else winds up with it, and then you regret it while thinking what would've happened if i went there that one extra time. So I say keep trying. looks like it would make for a good build thread as well.

If you had been told "no" all those times, I'd say give up before you get shot. Since you've never had a response at the door, there is nothing to give up on Keep on trying!

Re: Should i give up?

best thing to do is go to the county or records.Find out a phone number.May be the guy passed away. And has no next of Ken.If the property is payed off.You might of stumbled on to more then a truck. Here in Calif. If you pay the Property tax 3 years in a row.You can file to have the property put into your name. Then anything on that property is yours free and clear.Or you just might wind up with a job cleaning the property up for the truck.I've seen strange things happen

Re: Should i give up?

I have gotten several trucks by just going up and knocking on the door,if no one answers, just leave a note on the door jam it in so the wind doesnt blow it away, telling them you are interested in buying the truck, leave name and phone number......

Drive up in a classic too... it helps... shows you're not just there to buy and flip their vehicle, but maybe you'll restore and drive it. People are weird like that. They don't like to think the next guy is going to make a quick buck on them.

Re: Should i give up?

Do you think someone was home but didn't answer the door or do they have no idea you've been there? Either way, as Leddzepp said, you aren't giving up on anything they know about. I wouldn't go as far as checking county records and all that. If someone showed up with my place after doing that diggin' up on me they'd be the last person on earth I'd sell to and they'd leave my doorstep with a fat lip. Just to aggressive and inconsiderate. I'd leave a "Don't mean to intrude but if and when" note in the door. Nothing offensive about that. Just because something sits doesn't mean they don't want it.

I know where there is a '67 GTO that has been sitting in plain view of the state road since Viet Nam. It was once a shiny gold beauty yu wondered why it never moved and was outside. I got the story that it was the son's who died in Viet Nam. I figure if I can see it so can thousands of others, yet it still sits. Maybe some have tried, but I never will. I'm sure there are strong emotional reasons that are not for me to judge. I don't need to knock on their door to find out it's not for sale and if I did I'd feel like a real turd. That car has never moved, most paint gone, rusting away, and even the old barn near it has since fallen to the ground. It's just a personal possession for them to do what they see fit with. A damn shame but who am I to judge how someone else deals with their loss?

Re: Should i give up?

I've had the same person stop by and ask about my VW Bug a few times. Now that I'm in the hunt for a 60s C10, I'd love to see him stop by and ask again. And in that line, my answer should have been "Today it's not."

My reply to a door knock inquiry. "It's my brothers truck, I'm, looking after it for him. He's in Folsom finishing a 5 year battery stint for beating the guys teeth out that stole his Impala"! Just a little theft insurance!!!

I find that incredibly hard to believe as my wife works in the Assessors office. How about outlining the procedure. If this is true. Sorry for the hijack here

Have stopped by 3 or 4 times but no one ever comes to the door....but I bet they check the mail from time to time?

Re: Should i give up?

Yeah, just leave a decent note each time. If they are there and just ignoring you they can't fault you for keeping on trying. If they want you to stop bothering them they will have to let you know. Since you don't know their situation and all you are doing is leaving a note, I see no foul.

"I love your truck. If you ever decide to sell it, could you please give me a chance at it? I am very serious. Here is my name and number. Could you please save it for the day you may want to sell it? Thank you"

According to the United States Postal Service, it is illegal to place items into a mailbox with the intent of avoiding postage. Flyers, advertisements and other items that are placed in or on a mailbox without paid postage or by someone who is not a Postal employee are considered illegal.
My uncle got in trouble for putting flyers for his business in mailboxes. He was warned and told not to do it anymore.

Of course, most of us have all done it before... I don't think the FBI is going to break down your door for one note about a truck...

It would be a federal offense to use a mailbox to leave a note. But, that isn't what towbar said. He said, "I bet they check their mail". What I see him saying is he will write the address down, go home to write a note, put it in an envelope, seal it, put a first class stamp on it, put it in his mailbox with the flag up, and let USPS take care of the rest
