As I said in another post, I installed my Western Chassis stuff on the front.
1.5" coils 2.5" spindles new balljoints Doetch Techs After the truck was apart and we started installing the balljoints we realized that we got three lowers and only one upper, although we had 2 boxes of each. Someone at autozone switched the parts! Anyway, my local store was the only store without another upper in stock and it was "too late" for them to drive and get it for me, so they told me I would have to go get it myself. I returned it, went to Napa next door and went home. What a bunch of jerks! (not that I don't expect this from Autozone) Anyway, the truck rides great now. I am trying to find out if anyone has replumbed the brake lines to clear the drop parts?

You might need to 'clearance' the hardline where it comes out of the caliper. I bolted mine up & then tweaked them until there were no interference problems. I also inverted one of the tabs that bolts to the upper a-arm that secures the brake line so that the line had a better angle going toward the caliper.

I welded my muffler back on. That wasn't easy lemme tell you, lol someone needs to make low profile welding helmets so you can get your head between exhaust pipes and driveshafts... Gotta be quite the contorsionist to be able to weld on that thing, lol
Ain't a pretty weld by any means, but between the weld and the clamp, it shouldn't leak at all. I also thought of a very simple way of fixing my driveshaft vs muffler clearance issues -- I just mounted the muffler vertically instead of flat like usual Doesn't affect its performance, so why not? Having that thing sealed properly seemed to get rid of the rumbling when I let off the gas, but all the engine problems I was having before are back now though... Not too sure why either. I guess I just need to put a new dizzy on already :P The engine is still dieseling too, stupid peice of junk...

I unpacked this in prep for installing it. Cut off my old muffler while I was jacking around with droppin my pax side fuel tank and rerunning all the fuel rubber in the truck.

Wow, great looking car.
My father in law is looking at a 90% complete 57 station wagon (not a Nomad) for about $4500. Maybe this pic will help him decide.

Worked on the carb of the 82. Got the mixture pretty good now. Still have a few choke tweaks. I'd forgotten how much fun fine tuning a carb can be..
Spent most of Saturday cleaning the rest of the space for the new workshop. Wife had her birthday Sunday, but we did her thing Saturday evening as we had a church barbeque on Sunday. Cleaned the 96 yesterday night just in time for it to rain on it today

Since the ZZ4 now has bout 90K, I decided to pull the heads to have them completely rebuilt. I also opted to get the bowls cleaned for a little more power.
Early into the dismantling, I decided to pull the pistons and get them reconditioned too. After pulling them, I found that the #5 piston was cracked, 3 other looked to have some blow by happening and the timing chain has about 1" of play as well. What makes me happy about this is the this motor ran excellent even with these problems. Can't wait to get it back together and see how she really acts! Plus, this is the best time to really clean everything up! |

I also found a 88 burb with a blown 10 bolt for $1200 asking price. Rebuilt engine and tranny in the last 30k. Appaernetly the owner doesn't know you can pick up a 10 bolt from pull a part for under $100. He thinks it needs $1500 in repairs. Thinking of getting fixing and reselling. If it's still there when I get back from vacation I'll go get it.

I cleaned up the garage some and moved all the parts for the truck back to my garage. I "almost" have everything there this week. That was the highlight of my weekend.
