Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

Hey

Thanks in advance to anyone answering my questions.
I am installing dual electric fans. Can I use the same thermostat as the temp gauge ? Or do I have to install the one it came with ?
And where could I put it is there another spot in the block ?

Type electric fan temperature switch in the search box and click the 67-72. You will find dozens of threads about this. You will more than likely find several that are about your engine unless your putting something really unusual in your truck, like a radial airplane engine. Well you might find that one.
Good luck.

Re: Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

I installed the one that came with the fans in a different location so I could still monitor the temp. I put it on the intake next to the thermostat because it was the only spot available.

Re: Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

Thank you all. Hamjet - I think thats what im doing too. Now I have to relocate the upper radiator hose and but in a new thermostat housing to clear the spot for the new sending unit.. I just wasnt sure if the two sending units did the same thing ? I want to put on a new upper radiator hose that goes directly to the housing. Not the old curvy stock hose.
I will try to search for that. I just got back from oreillys trying to find one that will work. No luck. Of course it has to look cool too.

Thanks again
Dave

Re: Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

The temp sender for your guage is different than the one that turns on the fan when the temperature rises above 180 or whatever temp sender you bought. They have two different functions. When I installed my electric fan I wondered the same and I also wanted my temp guage to work. So I hooked my fan wire and temp gipuage wire up to the temp guage sender. The fan came on as soon as the guage stared to read some heat....not good. I switched it out for the radiator fan temp sender and left the temp guage unhooked for now.

When I hooked my son's up . I connected the thermostat switch that came with the fan to the fan. I added a temperature sensor on the drivers side since his engine block had a spot for it. That one I hooked up to the temp gauge on the dash cluster.

Re: Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

you can see the one to the left works the fan ( little black wire comming off the brass block at the heater hose) while the one at the right on the intake is the mechanical sending unit.( don't mind the cobby setup off the waterpump, its just temp, till I figure out a fix) LOL

I could have done the same, but I have a mechanical temp guage sending unit already in the drivers side head. That's why the cluster temp gauge not working is ok for now. I may utilize one of the intake manifold ports...

Re: Electric fans thermostat question HELP?

Hey guys
just wanted to thank you guys for saving me time. fired her up today. Sweet.
Got a nice fitting radiator hose, wired everything. Few button up details and try and align the cowl and hood. Should be on the road this week end.
