V8 Radiator Shrouds: Differences - Dimensions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

For small block V8 trucks I notice there are more than a couple factory shrouds. What are the depths and applications? For reference I have a '71 GMC with a factory 350, 4 speed and no AC. The engine is forward of automatic trucks I've had in the past (??). Looking for a shroud deeper than this. Does it exist?

the factory 2wd a/c shroud is about 5" deep, the 2wd non a/c shroud is about 6" deep, the 4x4 shroud is about 9"deep. I say "about" because the shrouds are tapered - they measure deeper at the top, more shallow at the bottom. The 4x4 engine is set back compared to the 2wd.

I have a feeling something isn't being shown here. Going by memory, a rusty memory: The '71 I had years ago was a factory virgin everything 350 - 350 Turbohydro no AC C10 2WD, the distributor was right next to the firewall, an HEI wouldn't even fit it was so close. My current '71 350 4 speed no AC C10 2WD is good 4 to 6 inches from the firewall. Wondering if someone might have a measurement of the shroud depth of an automatic truck like my first '71?
I need as deep of a shroud as I can get.

weim, I think your first truck sounds like the 6 cyl position was used. A factory v-8 uses the forward most holes unless a 4x4 I believe.

Any reason a 4WD shroud wouldn't work on a 2WD truck?

I wished I seen this earlier. I just installed a NOS shroud in my Ramp Rat truck Saturday morning. I could have gotten the measurements for you.
350/4 speed no AC.

The only difference I have ever seen where for the 4x4 trucks and 2 wheel drive.

It will work IF the sbc engine is mounted in the 6 cyl. or rear motor mount perches. I had a sbc mounted where the 6 cyl. I took out, used a 4 wd shroud and it worked fine.

X2 That's how mine is set up also....and a HEI distributor fits with no problem.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
