72 Am/FM radio

Does anyone know or have a wiring diagram to hook this radio up to test it. It has a plug in the rear with 3 spades.

One is positive the other two are for the speaker. I think the diagram is stamped into the metal.

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

It uses the same wiring harness as the AM radio. The picture below may help. The red is positive. The black and green go to the speaker (you can see speaker "remnants" on those wires in the picture).

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

If the back of the radio was in front of me with the plug on the right side. Which side does the hot wire go? Far left or far right?

If a picture is worth 1000 words are 2 pictures worth 2000 words?

Don't loose that AM filter that has fallen down into the the front of the radio! I can see it through the window, they are hard to come by.

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

Well, I got it hooked up and it doesn't seem to have any sound coming out. Might be my antenna, but I can get some static on the speaker when turning it on and off but that's it.

Did you run a ground to the case when testing?

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

Time to send it off to Joe Cilluffo in SC for a makeover, he is reworking my 1971 AM/FM now and does great work.

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

Did you ground the antenna. I think that also needs to be done. Maybe someone can confirm. They normally ground to the body.

Re: 72 Am/FM radio

It's about $200 for a comprehensive clean and check and scales up from there if he has to replace innards. He can also send your faceplate and trim pieces off to be replated at additional expense although his guy is slow and expensive. He rebuilt the Delco AM and sold me a replacement speaker for my Jimmy and did a great job; I look forward to getting my AM/FM back to see how things turned out.
