Unisteer Question
Anyone running a unisteer rack and pinion unit on your trucks. I am contemplating the upgrade but can not get a straight answer from Unisteer whether I need the model number they list for drum or disc brakes. My truck originally came with front drums but I have converted it to disc. Nothing really changed as far as the linkage so I assume I can order their drum model. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Unisteer Question
It may have to do with the tie rod ends. They are different for drums vs discs.

Re: Unisteer Question
The steering arms on the knuckles from a disc truck or drum truck?
I know nothing about the steering system you are inquiring about but I assume, since the question is about brakes that is the connection.

Re: Unisteer Question
That would definitely make sense, for sure. What spindles did you use? Were they stock, or aftermarket?

Re: Unisteer Question
I did the Unisteer conversion several years ago on a '68.
I would suggest you drive one before you spend the money. On mine, it decreased the turning radius quite a bit (more back and forth in tight areas), and I really couldn't tell any difference when driving the truck. Wasn't any more accurate, and didn't really change the "feel" of the truck. Except for looking cool, and having the blue bowtie on the rack, wasn't much difference. I felt it was a pretty big waste of money.... Just my opinion. |
