Re: Interesting bed choice!

I live about 20 miles from there, if anyone is interested, i'd go take a look for them.
I wonder if I might have sold that box to them! About 6 months ago, I sold a new take-off 2006 Chevy 8' box that was white, to a car dealer in Lincoln.

Re: Interesting bed choice!

I'd like to see how they wrapped the lower moulding around the bed corner-. You would think that for 15K they could have installed pedal pads on the clutch & brake pedals. Definitely one of a kind

The sad part is someone will buy it and might not even know that it's a newer bed. .

Who'd have thunk it fits as well as it does?

Re: Interesting bed choice!

If you tilt your head and squint just right...... 15 grand could we at least have the stick shifter painted black? There may have and probably was some hard work there it just makes me wonder if and what may be covered up. Now I build these trucks and late model wrecks too, But I build every one like I or my children or my mother may drive it from now on. that has been a pretty good standard to set for my trucks/cars and has held me in good stead

Re: Interesting bed choice!

Forgot to add, not that I'd want it though.

Doing something like this is something you do to build a firewood truck or dump runner.

Re: Interesting bed choice!

I don't know anyone involved with the sale of this truck... but honestly I find a lot of these comments to be rude.

It is obvious from looking at a few pictures that a decent amount of effort and money has been spent on this truck. Would I make the same build choices? Absolutely not. But someone built what they wanted, and it turned out "fair." I bet whoever built it likes it quite a bit.

Hard to really judge something like this without seeing it in person. It could be really nice, or a huge dangerous pile of ****. Hard telling.

It is not listed as all original restored or anything of the sort. These trucks do not have to be original to be nice.

I agree with all that has been said. I'm curious as to what is hiding under the paint. $15k.

I agree, and its only an asking price on what he probably has in it really. You guys stateside must really be spoiled if a 4x4 of any sort that runs and drives and looks decent is 15k. Where I live a 4x4 can fetch 5 grand as a rusted out beater that needs 5-6 k just to be road worthy.

Eh, it's the color combo and trim they slapped on it. I've seen one other truck in person before that had a 99-06 short fleet bed on it and it doesn't look right at all. The whole truck was flat black, so it kinda looked OK from a distance, but up close it just didn't look right.

I agree with your last sentence. But I don't think there's a whole bunch of just plain mean rudeness going on here. I'd bet that most of us making varying degrees of disparaging comments aren't "offended" by the idea of the build so much as by the idea that something that sure looks sketchy being listed for that price. Speaking for myself, it just seems ethically wrong, and pretty opportunistic.

The fact that it's being sold via a auto dealer is the number one reason I think the price is badly inflated - I so often see our trucks for sale at a dealer, with various major issues, at really-nice-truck prices. They just look online and see big dollar amounts on some very well done truck, then look at the thing they just purchased or took in on trade and figure they can get the same if the paint is decent.

The other reasons - the bed, tailgate obviously worked to mimic an original Super style, steering wheel, tach, pedals, cut dash - are just what's easy to see on the surface and point to some serious corners likely being cut in places not so easy to see.

I wasn't ragging on the person who did the build if that's what they truly wanted. But I am thinking that if they cobbled it together and painted it to sell at a huge profit, or if they traded it in and the dealership is expecting to make big bucks from someone who doesn't know better, that just isn't right.

Re: Interesting bed choice!

I think I'd actually like to see some close ups on this one. After looking some more, they didn't didn't just slap a bed on the truck. The sharp rolled creases on a 99-02 bed are gone, as is the bodyline around the wheel arch, and the wheel arch itself, it looks to me like they grafted the lower half of a 67-72 bed and wheel arches onto a 99-06 bed??? If so, that's a lot of work for an interesting affect.

I always hate post like this..
Not everyone is a die in the wool chevy/gmc truck lover with every stats and parts burned in their gray matter..
Many in the car/truck hobby just want a cool older vehicle..
Many are not even mechanicly inclined..

Sad that this is what some think of others in the hobby.. just because they might not know the correct look of a (pick a year) body part..
Or how to tell that that engine isn't what the 327 badge claims..

Re: Interesting bed choice!

((Excluding price)) and being a purist on these trucks after looking at it I have to give some credit..We have seen all sorts of beds on these trucks from the later stepsides to ford beds..I do a lot of my own work as quite a few on this site do..this took some time and thought. This is on a dealer lot and he is trying to make money..maybe he took it on trade who knows..just stand back and look...not our cup of tea but for having the wrong bed it does not line up that bad.I would not buy it but it will sell....just looking at it from another viewpoint...........Rob..........

Frankentruck is MY truck The sad thing is id buy it and drive it, because why not? more custom tailihght options and the filler door on the side for an under bed tank. and almost looks like they just used the tailight/ tailgate section.

Re: Interesting bed choice!

I agree with Rob. I wouldn't say cobbled, just not correct. If it was all original in that condition and gong for 5-10k more most comments would be "nice truck", not a bad price. You can buy a brand new bed for that for $2,500, paint it and have a very nice truck. I would certainly use the bed as a basis for my offer of $2-3k less...if the rest is good as it appears.
