Adjusting neutral safety

I just finished wiring up my sons truck. All light works except the reverse backup lights. How can you loosen the screws to the neutral safety switch. There is not enough room to get a socket to loosen them up. I tried but no luck. Or is there other ways to test the neutral safety switch to see if it works.

Thanks,
Ramiro

I can't remember if the screws are 1/4 or 5/16 inch but that is the only way to adjust it. I use a 1/4 inch drive rachet with a 2 inch extension on it. I have also used a nut driver on them but it is a little more awkward.

You also can use a small box end wrench. A 12 point works better. Its very short turns but it does not need to lose. Just enough to slide it.

Re: Adjusting neutral safety

Before you do all that, use standard troubleshooting procedures....
1. Key on
2. Check for power at the light socket with test light, no power go to step 3, if power is present, correct ground or bad bulb
3. Check the switch with a test light, one side is always hot and when in reverse power is transferred through the switch to the other terminal which leads to the reverse lights.

Re: Adjusting neutral safety

Thank you Randy500. I will go purchase a test light and try that first.

That's right. Check all electrical stuff first. You can jump the wires also to see if the lights come on.
