Best Repop Grill
I'm looking into a new grill (Inner and outer) for my 72 Chevy. Since NOS parts are a little out my price range I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the reproduction ones.
Are any one of them better than the others? Maybe one place has a real good outer and another co makes better inner ones? Looking for this sites wisdom!

Re: Best Repop Grill
I'm in to see what kind of responses you get. I just cleaned and polished up my dented, scratched original, because of the poor quality I've seen, at least on the outers. I went to a swap meet last year, and a vendor had 3 of them. I pulled them all out of the boxes, and found mangled tabs, scratches, etc. on the brand new parts, and when I considered that I haven't found very many aftermarket parts that fit well yet, it turned me off.
I hope that sometime, someone will produce a decent copy.

Re: Best Repop Grill
It does not matter WHERE OR WHOM you buy it from, Yet WHO makes it.
For example: Sheet metal is made for our trucks by 3 different manufactures. Tri-Plus tends to be the leader in this field for its quality. Now to find out how many and who makes the grills. |

Re: Best Repop Grill
I have to have the top bar on my 69 GMC grill replaced or re-chromed. From all that I've read, the best option is to have the original re-chromed, even though that usually costs more than buying a reproduction piece. Just waiting for the weather to warm before I pull it apart and take it to the plater.

I have often thought of having my dent free aluminum totally chrome plated. I thing it would look dynamite if it matched a dent free NOS bumper. |

I am always looking for a new business to fail at, I have considered buying up a 3D printer to turn out exact copies of the 1971-72 inner grill. |

Re: Best Repop Grill
This is why I'm giving up on plating and going with paint. Besides, satin silver/black should look great on my '72 GMC grill.

Re: Best Repop Grill
I've never seen a decent repop grille. Your best bet is getting a nice used OEM and having it polished/restored. There is an excellent shop here in town that did mine.

Re: Best Repop Grill
Mine has a fairly large gouge on the outside corner, It also is slightly flattened. Is that something they can handle?

Re: Best Repop Grill
I've been waiting a while for an OEM grille to show up on my local craigslist, long enough that I've been contemplating taking my chances with a repop grille. Does anyone have experience they can share with specific brands (Goodmark, LMC, Brothers, GMCPaul)? Like Toolboxchev mentioned, I'm sure some of them are made by the same manufacturers, but that info is not listed on the sellers websites.

Re: Best Repop Grill
I used a repop inner and outer from AMD(Auto Metal Direct) which sells Tri Plus parts and it fits and looks great .I still have my original dent free one that just needs the anodisised coating stripped off and polished .
