Help identify this Ramsey Winch

Hey guys, picked up this old winch from a buddy, which has had it on the shelf since the late 80's, and it seems real heavy duty. I know it's a Ramsey, but not sure what style, strength, and purpose? Thanks for any help you can provide

as tag says 8k winch .

its a worm gear unit .

can still get most parts if ever needed.

I just re-gasketed a unit for my buddy .

easy to play with .

we did a B/A products 100ft 3/8" winch line rope for it . same as tow truck guys are using . the newer clamp style is way better . and it swivles . on ebay for under 100 shipped.

Re: Help identify this Ramsey Winch

You can go to the Ramsey site and dload a spec sheet. But here is some more basics. The worm gear needs no brake so it's a safe winch. It's slow, about 350:1 reduction ratio and the line speed at 8000lbs is probably less than 10ft per minute. Not a snatch and go winch the rock crawlers like these days. The big spur gear case makes it a bit awkward to mount. I have one of similar design mounted and it is behind the bumper. So the mounting was figured out back in the old days before planetary winches became the norm. For free you can't go wrong that's for sure. And parts are easy to get.
