65 c20 replacement rear end and disk brakes

#1 Trying to figure out what rear end I should get out of what truck to put in my c20. I want to go 5 or 6 lug, 5x5 or 6x5.5
Iv been looking at 1/2 ton rear ends with dums that are the right size. Not sure if there is a better option?

Side Note its a work truck that I have a 5.3 and looking for a 6speed not going to make crazy power so I don't need to go over the top on parts.
in Denver CO.

#2 Disk brake kit for the front 2.5" Drop Spindles. This is the kit I was looking at. Again if there is a better option let me know.
Also saw if I do this kit I need to get c10 lower arms. Anything els?

Thanks for your help.

Re: 65 c20 replacement rear end and disk brakes

Welcome to the forum Branden

Any '63-'72 truck 12 bolt will be basically a direct bolt into your truck. A few differences. The '63-'64 will have 17 spline spiders and a long panhard bar just as your Eaton HO52/72 differential (assuming that you do have a Chevy and a Eaton differential) The '65-'72 will have the shorter panhard bar and will require either a different frame bracket, or a bend in the bar. The '63-'70 will be the 6 x 5.5 wheel stud pattern and the '71-'72 will be the 5 x 5 wheel stud pattern.

Since you are starting with a C20, I do not know of a balljoint that will press into the C20 lower control arms and accept a disc brake dropped spindle. And with a '63-'66 C20 you can not just change the lower control arms, you will have to change the entire crossmember. The C20 lower control arm shafts are flat and bolt to the crossmember with regular bolts. The C10 lower control arm shafts are round and attach to the crossmember with u-bolts sitting in saddles.

Re: 65 c20 replacement rear end and disk brakes

Thanks for all the info man. Guess ill need to make some calls to check what I thought was right and do some more reading on here about the disk brakes.

I found a rear end out of a 2000 Suburban that is 5 lug and the right size but needs a little work to get it in.

I do make the trailing arm mounts to weld to that 2000 8.5" 10 bolt if you need a set.
