Folding Bench Latch Location?
Hello everyone.
I don't think my truck is equipped with the folding front bench, but I just want to be sure. I see the lever for the back and forth seat adjustment, but I do not know where the folding lever would be. Could someone let me know or maybe post a picture? Thank you very much, this forum is wonderful. -Gavin |

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
Check where the seat back and bottom portion of the seat meet. Hinge point if you have one. (right above the seatbelt retractor)
My '73 did not have one.

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
It would help knowing what year of truck you have.
Some seats had tilt, some didn't. Most of the 80's just fold forward, they don't have a latch or lever. They just fold forward by you folding it forward.

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
Looking at your other postings I see you have a '74. It probably doesn't have a tilting seat. Not all did back then. If you can't get it to tilt ,and can't find a lever at the rear base of the seat, it's probably a fixed seat.

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
Both of my '74 s do not have the folding seat. The cover for the seat back wraps the "arm" that bolts to the seat bottom. Super pain for storage when you are used to using it on another truck

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
you can modify your seat to fold forward by using a piece of angle iron like I did...this is in my 72, but will work on newer seats as well |

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
^^ are the bolts shouldered so they can stay tight but let the back pivot ? I was just curious if they stay tight or you have to tighten them once in awhile

Yeh it needs to be shouldered. Here's the bolt that goes in the tilt seats

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
Yes, I have taken the tilt ones apart before. I was just wondering if using the original in a non tilt seat was shouldered and could be used. Never took the non tilt apart before. I assume it doesn't have a shouldered bolt

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
So the frame on the first pic, this hole is used for the stop on the tilt seat. The hole down lower on the frame, is for the shouldered bolt. This is what allow the seat to tilt.
The other pic of the seat bottom frame, the inside hole, is what is used for the non tilt seat. A bolt would mount the seat back in 2 places, which of course, would keep the seat from tilting. There are 2 holes in the seat back, it's hard to see because of the sun. So you would remove both bolts and replace the bottom bolt with a shoulder bolt. And then place a stop, which is just a bolt, using the hole in the frame (1st pic). Now the seat back will tilt. It will look just like what El Dorado Jim posted #6

Re: Folding Bench Latch Location?
just re-use the tapered screws that are on the seat already, you don't need any other bolts, look at the pics I posted, use a piece of angle iron, drill a hole in it and countersink the hole, mine never loosen up.if they were to I would just use a little bit of blue loctite....I can post a close up if you guys need a better pic..
