Radiator hose fitment suggestions

I put a v8 in my 67, using the 6 cylinder engine location. I put in flex hoses, but I'm quite unhappy. Both top and bottom have kinks, and the top wants to hit the aftermarket a/c. I have a temporary solution with a twist tie just so I can run the engine while working on it, but no way I will leave it like that. The reason the twist tie is where you see it, rather than at the /ac, is because if I put one at the a/c, it creates a massive kink in the hose. I could probably live with the bottom hose, but the top has to go.

So I'm thinking there must be preformed hoses that would fit, but the parts guys at my local can't seem to figure it out.

Hoping someone here could give me an application so that I could order hoses. My thermostat housing points straight forward, and of course the a/c is where it is. Pics attached to help. Thanx

Thanx, cdowns. I was worried that since my engine if further back than the factory v8 that they would be short. Not so?

Re: Radiator hose fitment suggestions

Factory V8 4x4s sit farther rearward than 4xs, and they use a formed steel tube for the upper hose, with a short section of rubber hose on each end.
Maybe you could adapt something similar -- maybe have a muffler shop bend up something to fit?

Maybe not -- I can't recall on the top hose, but I do remember the bottom molded hose was "cut to fit" -- I had to take a couple inches off of for a stock V8 setup.

Possible fits:
upper Dayco E70935
upper Dayco E70611

lower E70664 (stock fitment K20)

BLTgmc made a custom tube (for 4x4) for another member (name?) He sent him a wire template & BLTgmc made one out of SS

Re: Radiator hose fitment suggestions

Bend a piece of coat hanger wire (or any kind of stiff wire) into the shape and length you want and take that to a parts house. Then you can use that as a guide to see what formed bent hose will fit.

Thanx all. I will check those parts numbers, and the wire is a great idea.

I used an upper hose from a 73-87 4x4 on my K 20. Works just fine.

Talking Re: Radiator hose fitment suggestions

Old picture with old 305 TPI motor I had in my 71 for about 20 years. I went to Lowes and bought a piece of conduit bent it and polished it. Added the ends off a stock hose.
I went for function not looks!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

change out your thermostat housing for one that aims to the right and you should be able to use a stock upper hose

Re: Radiator hose fitment suggestions

Nice idea, Andy, and looks good. I guess I would have to find a pipe the exact size. I have no way of bending it, but the idea does raise some possibilities.

So all the factory ones exit to the right? I have another that goes to the right, but it hits the temp sender that I don't want to remove. Perhaps the factory 4x4 hoses would work with that, but I really don't want to mess with the temp sender.

Re: Radiator hose fitment suggestions

Well, I did as Gasoline71 suggested and bent a coat hanger and hit the parts stores. I know most of these guys from all my projects over the years, so they all let me in the back to find something.

On my 3rd store, I struck gold. This hose fits exactly. The application is LOWER hose for 2010 (and other years) explorer, sport trac, and mountaineer with the 4.0 engine. I never would have guessed. If anyone else is ever in this mess, Napa 16102 is the number.

Best part is, I owned a sport trac until a few years ago, so I had the hose I would eventually be needing in my driveway for years.

Crazy.

thanx Gasoline71 and everyone else that helped.

My CHR radiator fit's fine. No problems. I have bought 3 of them and not one thing I can say bad about them.
