Defrost vent positioning and paint sheen?
Taking another shot at this..........
Can anyone confirm the BOTTOM of the LH defrost vent is directed toward the driver's side, and firewall and the BOTTOM of the RH defrost vent is directed toward the firewall? Put another way, the smallest louver on both vents face outwards (symmetrical). I know it's easy to figure out when installed, but I try to do the "legwork" as I tear into this truck. The duct was removed long ago, and at least one vent replaced. My other truck doesn't have any, go figure. Also, is the sheen on the top of the vents supposed to be satin or flat? I know the dash is supposed to be flat, but different material. The underneath of these (original) were gloss. Thank you

Re: Defrost vent positioning and paint sheen?
My guess on the sheen of the vents is gloss. It's unpainted plastic so when it came off of the line the plastic would have had a gloss to it. Just a guess.
As far as vent direction, I don't know but if no one jumps in, I'll take some pictures tomorrow & post them. |

The RH replacement is gloss brown underneath. Appears I painted the top semi-gloss. I found it at the wrecking yard, and still remember one of the employees saying he was disappointed he hadn't found it - even 25 years ago. There's probably good reason not to paint the top gloss. Same theory as the dash. Here's some NOS, for what it's worth. Know what, I just got a clue thank you. They're the same mold of course - they just spray the tops. Matter of fact, the book says "paint" as required or something like. http://www.ebay.com/itm/67-68-69-70-...RYb-gU&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-1967-1972...JWefOl&vxp=mtr .

Re: Defrost vent positioning and paint sheen?
Tony I thought the defrost vents would only pop in one way aligning with a notch in the sheetmetal.
As for finish, it may depend - some examples were painted with the same flat finish paint used on the dash metal. I pulled a saddle painted set of blue plastic defrost vents from a 72 blazer that were original to the truck. Other examples probably had the same plastic shine as the remainder of the vent.
