bed floor rail support repair

This isnt my truck bed but the part i circled on my truck is all cut up and rusted. has anyone taken this off and made there own bracket. im not sure what the correct term for this part is, it looks like i could cut it out and replace with angle iron of some kind.

Not to hijack ebaby35's thread but think about this. It looks to me that the outside bed boards support the bedsides by the angles sitting on the boards. As time goes by & the wood deteriorates the bedsides loose support & may start to sag. What if the angles were low enough on the bedsides to sit on the cross sills & the boards sat on top on the angles. Then you would have metal supporting metal & metal supporting wood. Just thinking out loud, & me thinking alone is dangerous enough!
